Presents "Spotlight on Youth Art" featuring the
East Oakland School of the Arts (EOSA)
New Spiral Walkway Exhibit with a Meet the Artists Reception
San Francisco, CA —July 24, 2009 - Zeum: San Francisco's Children's Museum today announced the opening of Proof Positive, its newest "Spotlight on Youth Art" installation, featuring a collection of thought-provoking artwork by high-school students from the East Oakland School of the Arts (EOSA). The exhibit, comprising more than seventy-five pieces, will be open from July 24, 2009 to November 15, 2009.
Proof Positive illustrates how the critically-minded students from EOSA have enhanced their learning by incorporating art with the standard curriculum. The student work takes on subjects related to politics, history, science, statistics and writing with a creative approach, through the use of pastel drawings, silkscreen t-shirts, collages, podcasts, digital art, and video.
"The students at EOSA are encouraged to create artwork that captures elements of their life experiences and personal surroundings," said Ariel Roman, Arts Instructor at EOSA. "At the same time, they integrate what they have studied in the classroom, which deepens the learning process."
"This exhibit is a clear example of Zeum's commitment to giving youth a voice by providing a venue to showcase artwork that celebrates their creativity and talent," said Audrey Yamamoto, Executive Director at Zeum. "In doing so, we hope young artists realize that what they say matters and that they have the power to have a positive impact both inside and beyond their own communities."
On September 17, 2009, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Zeum and EOSA will host a special "Meet the Artists" reception for the community in the Spiral Walkway gallery to get to know the students and educators behind Proof Positive. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
